Check Out Charm City: Memorial Day Weekend Guide

Happy Memorial Day Weekend! The kick off to summer! Bring on the crabs and the beer, the humidity and the stinky harbor water, the BBQing and the sunscreen. Your weekend may be full of cook outs, but if you are looking to do something, here are some ideas to fill your holiday weekend:

Get your day drink on at Brew at the Zoo - 2 days of Craft and Local Beer Sampling at the Maryland Zoo, Saturday and Sunday.

Then head over to Federal Hill’s 8x10 to watch Garrett Anderson and Twiddle melt your faces with their jams.

Keep the party going in Federal Hill by going over to the SoWeBo Arts & Music Festival. Over 35 bands and 50 arts & crafts vendors. Goes from 12 to 9 PM on Sunday.

If sports are more your thing, the O’s take on the Royals, Sunday at 1:35PM. The first 10,000 fans get a camouflage script O’s tshirt.

Monday… just take it easy and wave that American flag proud. Or just buy these shorts.

This weekend is filled with music and celebrations as Baltimore celebrates the Preakness, but don’t worry if you aren’t headed to the infield (since it just hasn’t been the same since they tightened it up), there is plenty more to enjoy.

On Thursday, Powerplant kicks it off with a free concert by Buckcherry - if that’s your thing.

On Friday - there is somewhere to dance no matter your taste in music. Powerplant continues the celebration on Friday with a free Mr. Greengenes show , a true kickoff to the summer. 2 Skinnee J’s will be playing at Ram’s Head. The Creative Alliance is hosting their 4th Annual Night of 1000 Dylan’s at the Patterson in honor of Bob Dylan. The Baltimore Symphony Orchestra takes you back to the 60s with “The Beat Goes On!” at the Meyerhoff (also showing on Saturday and Sunday)

Happy Preakness on Saturday! Maroon 5, the Darkness and Mr. Greengenes will be rocking the infield. Wear a big hat and dance across the port-o-pots for me.

To wrap up the weekend, Charm City Yoga kicks off their free summer classes every Sunday from 8:30-9:30 under the summer sun in the Inner Harbor next to the Vistor’s Center. You heard me, free. There’s no such thing as a free lunch, but they are willing to give out free sun salutations. Maybe they can help stretch out those over-danced legs and detox a bit.

Happy Weekend!

Check Out Charm City: Mother’s Day Guide

If you haven’t remembered yet, Sunday is Mother’s Day! Whether you are celebrating your mother, as a mother or because you could be considered the “mother” to your dog, here are some things to do around Baltimore -

Not one for a card and flowers? The O’s are taking on the Rays at 1:35PM at Camden Yards. The first 10,000 women will receive an orange Mother’s Day Sun Hat. Let’s hope it stays sunny!

Always wanted to check out the inside of those adorable Fells Point homes? The 41st annual Fells Point Historic House tour takes place from 11 to 5PM. The self-guided walking tour includes about a dozen houses. Tour programs can be picked up at the Fells Point Visitor Center or Long & Foster. A wonderful way to get a sneak peak into your dream home.

Forget getting brunch reservations at the new “it” restaurant and crappy flowers at the local Safeway, head to the Baltimore Farmer’s Market for fresh eats, produce and let your Mom pick out her own flowers!

What should you do on this gorgeous spring weekend? Get out of that house for one - then head downtown!

From 12 til 5PM on Saturday, the Let’s Eat! Charles Street Festival will be taking place. There will be 40 food and retail vendors including Brewer’s Art, Mick O’Shea’s, Midtown BBQ & Brew and more! Live music will be playing and sponsered by WTMD. Admission is free!

From there you should mosey on down to Ram’s Head to catch the Legwarmers. While you will have to scalp a ticket or find it on stubhub, the hassle will be worth the booty shaking and jumping around - taking you back to the best parts of the 80s, without the permanence of bad hair.
